Manufacturing Department Gives High School Students Hands-on Experience

The Butte College Manufacturing Department hosted more than 70 seniors and juniors from 17 local high schools during its annual AMP Training on November 29 and 30. The event took place in Butte College's recently completed, award-winning Welding and Manufacturing Facility. 

Participating students had an opportunity to demo the latest manufacturing technology and equipment, including a brake press, CNC machinery, robotic welder, and plasma cutters. They also got to put their skills to the test and engage in a friendly competition by building a bench using all the available resources, materials, and assistance from instructors and industry partners. On day two, students learned about career opportunities and real-world applications by touring Transfer Flow and Thomas Manufacturing. 

"This is a great opportunity to show high school students the potential career opportunities in the manufacturing industry, the skills needed, and how Butte College can prepare them for a career in this high-demand, high-wage sector," said Don Robinson, dean of instruction.

Butte College offers an associate degree and seven different certificate programs in manufacturing designed to teach students skills needed for a productive future in the Manufacturing industry.
